James H. Etchen, age 70, of rural Defiance, Ohio, died at 7:15 P.M. on Sunday, January 4, 2015, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio, after an extended illness. Mr. Etchen was a graduate of Fairview High School and was employed by Johns-Manville in Defiance, retiring with forty-four years of service, and was also a lifelong farmer, retiring in 1985. He was an avid collector of Oliver farm equipment. James H. Etchen was born on December 19, 1944, in Paulding, Ohio, the son of Vernon and Irene (Polter) Etchen. Survivors include his children, Todd (Paula) Etchen, of Lehigh Acres, Florida, Kevin (Angie) Etchen, of Hicksville, Ohio, Lisa (Mark) Risvold, of Westfield, Indiana, Jamey (Teri) Etchen, of Tacoma, Washington, and Jodi Etchen-Smith, of Lewisburg, Tennessee; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Dennis (Pat) Etchen, of Hicksville, Ohio; three sisters, Pamela (Willard “Pete”) Kline, of Ney, Ohio, Connie (Bob) Roesch, of Bryan, Ohio, and Ruthie (Gary) Wirth, of Sherwood, Ohio. Visitation will be held from 2:00-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 8, 2015, in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 9, 2015, in the Krill Funeral Home, Bryan with Pastor Byron Adams officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Cemetery, Sherwood, Ohio. Memorials are requested to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association.
