Alice J. Sims

Alice Jeanette (Garver) Sims, age 86, of Ney, Ohio, went Home to her Heavenly Lord and Savior at 1:30 P.M. on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Genesis HealthCare-Bryan Center, where she was a resident. Mrs Sims was a graduate of Ney High School, class of 1946. She was a secretary for the Central Local Schools for over 30 years and was also a secretary for the Defiance County Schools Superintendent. Alice was a member of the Ney Church of God and the Northwest Ohio and Toledo Chapters of the Sweet Adelines. Alice was born on September 21, 1927, in Ney, Ohio, the daughter of Arl and Susie (Connelly) Garver. She married William “Frank” Sims on March 12, 1949, and he preceded her in death on June 4, 2006. Alice was a loving mother of her sons, Maury (Deb) Sims, Steve (Sherry) Sims and Dennis Sims, all of Ney; loving grandmother of eight grandchildren, Joy Smith, Hope Kiessling, Brett Sims, Amber O’Bryan, Heather Bell, Kelsey Sims, Brittany Sims and Eric Sims; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. She is also survived by her brothers, Don and Ned Garver, both of Bryan, and a sister, Maribel Duckworth, of Bryan. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Mark Garver, and an infant sister, Arleen Garver. Visitation for Alice J. Sims will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2014, in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. in the Ney Church of God with Pastor Kevin King officiating. Interment will follow in Ney Cemetery. There will be one hour of visitation on Monday at the church prior to the funeral services. Memorials may be given to the Ney Church of God or an organization of the donor’s choice.
