Alfred C. “Al” Mercer, age 63, of Camden, Michigan, left his earthly body to go lie with his Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ, at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday, August 7, 2014, in his home surrounded by his family. Al began working at Edgerton Metal Products in 1968, becoming a supervisor at age twenty-one, and spent his last ten years with the company as plant manager, retiring in 1999. He then worked at Metaldyne in Edon, Ohio, and Global Automotive in Bryan, Ohio. His passion in life was building things, having built two of the homes he lived in plus several garages and pole barns. Enjoyment and relaxation to him was to saw boards, nail them together and build things. He and his wife spent many, many, many hours together building things. Al also attended the Edgerton Alliance Church, where he taught Sunday School for more than thirty-four years. He also was involved in many other aspects of the church. Alfred C. “Al” Mercer was born on January 26, 1951, in Bellaire, Ohio, the son of Burl and Evelyn (Bostic) Mercer. He married Marolyn (Knight) Shull on April 13, 2007, in Auburn, Indiana, and she survives. Survivors also include three sons, Christopher Mercer, of Delphos, Ohio, Todd (Melissa) Mercer, of Edgerton, Ohio, and Travis Mercer, also of Delphos; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Charles (Margaret) Mercer, of Kinsman, Ohio, Dan (Kathy) Mercer, of Edgerton, and Russell Mercer; and one sister, Diana (Ernest) Eckhart, of Burghill, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jack (Doris) and Burl Mercer, and two sisters, Loretta (Bill) Eckhart and Evelyn Hurlbert. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton. Services will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, with Pastor Charles Gray officiating. Private interment will take place at a later date. Memorials are requested to Hillsdale County Hospice or to the 1st Church of Amboy.
