Gus E. Phillips, age 66, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away at 8:20 P.M. on Sunday, June 8, 2014, at his residence after a lengthy illness. Gus owned Phillips Motors in Bryan for 28 years. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bryan, the Bryan Eagles Aerie #2233 and the National Federation of Independent Business. Gus was a businessman and a devoted family man. He enjoyed being with his daughters and grandchildren. He coached his daughters’ softball teams and enjoyed attending the sporting events of his grandchildren. His hobbies included boating on Lake Erie, riding dirt bikes in West Virginia, skiing at Clear Lake with his grandkids, and flying radio controlled airplanes. In his younger years, he enjoyed hang-gliding and bare-foot water skiing. He loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Gus E. Phillips was born on April 9, 1948, in Bryan, Ohio, the son of Denver J. and Gertrude L. (Jack) Phillips. He was a 1966 graduate of Bryan High School. On January 14, 1967, Gus married Linda A. Williams in Edgerton and she survives. Gus is also survived by his daughters, Wendy (Pete) Morris, of Columbus, Ohio, and Rebecca (Kevin) Temple, of Bryan; grandchildren, Andrew and Elizabeth Morris, both of Columbus, and Dominic and Karlee Temple, both of Bryan; brother, Thomas (Mary) Phillips, of Bryan; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Denver and James Phillips. Visitation for Gus will be held from 5:00-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. A private memorial service will be held for the family on Thursday with Pastor Dan Grant officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the American Cancer Society or the Community Health Professionals Hospice program.
