James L. Newman, Jr., age 51, of Edgerton, Ohio, died early on Sunday, May 11, 2014, at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he was a patient, after a valiant battle with cancer. Mr. Newman was a 1980 graduate of Edgerton High School, where he played football, basketball and baseball and was a member of the 1979 state runner-up baseball team. He attended Life Changing Realities Fellowship, where he was a greeter and usher, and formerly was a member of New Hope Community Church in Bryan, Ohio, where he was Sunday School superintendent and usher. Throughout the years he was a strong supporter of the youth of Edgerton, coaching softball of all ages, Little League baseball, and 5th and 6th grade football, and also was an Upward basketball coach. Jim enjoyed playing golf and especially enjoyed watching his children participate in their activities. The family would like to thank Sun-Caraco Pharmaceuticals in Bryan, where he was a manager, for their support and understanding throughout his illness, as well as the Karen Pettit family for a lifetime of friendship and support. James L. Newman, Jr. was born on June 17, 1962, in Bryan, Ohio, the son of James L. and Marcella M. (Lucas) Newman. He married Susan K. Flory on July 4, 1991, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and she survives. Survivors also include one son, James L. "Jimmy" Newman III, of Edgerton; three daughters, Alexandria Maynard, of Toledo, Ohio, Jaime Nicole Newman and Ashlee Lamae Newman, both of Edgerton; one brother, Dan Newman, of Edgerton; six sisters, Diane "Dee" Smith, of Indianapolis, Indiana, Donna Haase, of Hicksville, Ohio, Dolly Shisler, of Oakwood, Ohio, Susie Miller, Mary Jane Fitzcharles and Janet "Charlie" Rice, all of Edgerton; his father, James L. Newman, Sr., of Edgerton; and a special uncle and aunt, Joe and Mary Lou Newman, of Bryan. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marcy Newman, in 2004, and one sister, Deb Kizer, in 2009. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014, from 2:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home in Edgerton. Services will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. at Life Changing Realities Fellowship with Pastor Byron Adams officiating. Visitation will also be held in the church for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be private. Memorials are requested to Cancer Assistance of Williams County.
