Helen Lucile Riehle, age 102, of Edgerton, Ohio, died at 4:12 P.M. on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, in her home near Edgerton. A 1929 graduate of Edgerton High School, she attended Defiance College and received her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Bowling Green State University. Mrs. Riehle started teaching at Chapman School, a one-room school in Milford Township, and continued teaching in the Edgerton Local School system and then for nineteen years in the Hicksville Schools, from where she retired. She was a member of Emanuel United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, formerly of Evening Star Chapter #14 and currently of Bryan Chapter #248, from which she recently received her eighty-five year pin. She also was a seventy-eight year member of the Pythian Sisters, St. Joe #449, the Milford Community Club and the Defiance County Retired Teachers Association. Helen was also a longtime volunteer at Community Memorial Hospital in Hicksville and at Sauder Village in Archbold, Ohio. Helen Lucile Riehle was born on June 25, 1911, in Bryan, Ohio, the daughter of Joel E. and Lula (Hutchinson) Day. She married Allen D. Riehle on February 18, 1939, in Liepsic, Ohio, and he preceded her in death in 1947. She will be greatly missed by her three children, LuWana (Fred) Perkins, of Hudson, Indiana, Delton (Janice) Riehle, and Thelma Riehle, both of Edgerton; her grandchildren, Ross (Vicki) Riehle, of Edgerton, Kelli Perkins, Kurt Perkins and Bradly Riehle, all in Indiana, Bonita Hanson and Dale (Becky) Mason, also of Edgerton, and Jamie (Penny) Mason, in Kentucky; twelve great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Also missing her will be her sister-in-law, Juanita (Riehle) Ruble, of Montpelier, Ohio. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 14, 2014, from 2:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton. Pythian Sister Rites will be held at 4:00 P.M. with an Eastern Star service to be held at 7:30 P.M. on Friday, February 14, 2014, in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton. Services will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at 1:30 P.M. in the Emanuel United Methodist Church near Edgerton with Reverend R.L. Barnett officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Memorials are requested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
