Sandy E. Johns, age 50, of Sherwood, Ohio, passed away at 5:16 A.M. on Saturday, December 14, 2013, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, after an extended illness. Sandy was a 1982 graduate of Fairview High School and worked as a heavy equipment operator at OmniSource in Defiance for 30 years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sherwood, Ohio. Sandy was an avid outdoors man who liked hunting, spending time with his family and inventing things. He was a loving husband and father who enjoyed watching his children’s sports and activities. Sandy E. Johns was born on October 3, 1963, in Defiance, Ohio, the son of Lynn and Peggy (Baringer) Johns. He married Diane K. Coolman on August 12, 1989, in Sherwood and she survives. Sandy is also survived by his son, Evan Johns, and daughter, Payton Johns, both of Sherwood; his mother, Peggy Johns, of Sherwood; siblings, Bretta (Tim) Pendleton, of Bryan, Myla (Mark) Scheid, of Valrico, Florida, Lenny (Lana) Johns, of Hicksville, Tim (Jennifer) Johns, of Sherwood, Tara (Ted) Czartoski, of Sherwood, and Barry (Amy) Johns, of Archbold; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Lynn Johns. Funeral services for Sandy E. Johns will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Church, 9088 Openlander Road, Sherwood, with Pastor Kurt Letcher officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service at Sherwood Cemetery. Funeral services are under the care of Krill Funeral Service, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
