Donald P. Hovis, Jr., age 78, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 9:30 P.M. on Saturday, October 26, 2013, at the University of Michigan Cancer Center after a very short illness. He had worked at T.W.A. Westinghouse and retired from Allied Signal as a maintenance engineer with over 35 years of service. Donald was a member of Colonial Presbyterian Church, SKP RV Club, Fine Arts Single Club and the Bryan Eagles Aerie #2233. Don liked to go to garage sales and flea markets and repair broken items as a challenge. He would also spend time working crossword puzzles at several levels. For eleven years, he and his wife, Mary, traveled in a motor home in the 48 states and eastern provinces of Canada before moving to Bryan from their home park in Benson, Arizona. Born on March 12, 1935, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Donald P. and Pansy (Myers) Hovis, Sr., he was raised by his mother and stepfather, Pansy and Lee Mawby. A graduate of Raytown High School, he spent most of his life in Kansas City. On April 11, 1992, he married Mary Ann (Johnston) Sine in Kansas City, Missouri, and she survives in Bryan. Also surviving are his stepchildren, Tom (Jane) Sine, of Littleton, Colorado, Tracy Sine and Christy (Mike) Otten, both of Kansas City, Missouri; stepgrandchildren, Brandon and Jennifer Sine; half sisters, Linda Mawby and Karen Wynn, of Kansas City, Kansas, and Linda Storli-Koontz, of Valencia, California; sister-in-law, Barb Eschhofen, of Bryan; brother-in-law, Carl (Chris) Johnston, of Mission Viejo, California; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a half brother. A memorial service will be held at a 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 7, 2013, in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00 P.M. in the funeral home. Memorials in the name of Donald P. Hovis, Jr. may be given to the American Cancer Society or to Wesley United Methodist Church.
