William A. Callaway, Sr., age 81, of rural Edon, Ohio, died at 3:55 P.M. on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, in his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Callaway was a well-known brick mason in the Tri-state area, working with Local #2 of the Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers Union. He was a member of the Columbia Church of Christ. William A. Callaway, Sr. was born on January 22, 1932, in Dearborn, Michigan, the son of William G. and Artie Victoria (Goodpasture) Callaway. He married Vala F. Jackson on February 3, 1951, in Wayne, Michigan, and she survives. Survivors also include a daughter, Bonnie Long, of Crawfordville, Florida; two sons, Patrick (Deborah) Callaway, of Montpelier, Ohio, and John (April) Callaway, of Fremont, Indiana; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Callaway, of Edon; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gloria Bugg, of Royal Oak, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, William Callaway, Jr., in 2001, and Richard Callaway, in 2008, and two sisters. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2013, at 2:00 P.M. in the Northwest Township Community Building (former Cooney School) with Pastor Nathan Derico and Patrick Callaway II presiding, followed by a luncheon in the community building. Interment will be in Columbia Cemetery. Memorials are requested to the Columbia Church of Christ.
