Wayne R. Betts, age 86, of Edgerton, Ohio, died early on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Saucon Valley Manor assisted living facility, Hellertown, Pennsylvania, where he was a resident. A 1945 graduate of Payne Village School, he owned and operated two local businesses in Edgerton. He was active in politics in Milford Township and served as a township trustee for more than twenty years. Wayne loved anything that was connected to trains and planes. A licensed pilot, he enjoyed flying and was an avid collector of model trains. He had a complete layout of both O gauge and HO gauge trains in the basement of his home and also built several model radio controlled airplanes that he enjoyed flying at home and local area meets. He was a member of Emanuel Methodist Church, Edgerton, Ohio. Wayne Ralph Betts was born on April 2, 1927, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of Austa Fern (Johnston) and Ralph O. Betts. He was married to Leona Rose Krill on June 28, 1953, at Emanuel United Methodist Church, near Edgerton, and she preceded him in death on October 24, 2005. Survivors include his brother, Robert Betts, of Port Murray, New Jersey; two sons, John Betts, of Ashley, Indiana, and Darrell (Teresa) Betts, of Toledo, Ohio; eighteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Maggie. Also preceding him in death were his parents and one daughter, Laurie Stark. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 30, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at the Emanuel United Methodist Church, near Edgerton, with Reverend R.L. Barnett officiating. Interment will follow in the Tamarack Cemetery near Edgerton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church or to the Defiance County Humane Society.
