Elizabeth J. (Betty) Gulyás, age 75, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, died at 8:54 A.M. on Saturday, September 21, 2013, at Bethlehem Woods Care Center in Fort Wayne, where she was a resident. Mrs. Gulyás was a 1955 graduate of Edgerton High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Defiance College in 1964 and later her Master’s Degree from IPFW. She began her teaching career at St. John Catholic School in Payne, Ohio, and then spent eighteen years at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic School in Fort Wayne, where she was a recipient of the Light of Learning Award. Her memberships included Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and Catholic Ladies of Columbia and she was a longtime member of TOPS. Elizabeth J. (Betty) Gulyás was born on September 26, 1937, near Edgerton, Ohio, the daughter of George K. and Mary (Horvath) Hartley. She married Robert J. Gulyás on June 29, 1963, in Edgerton and he preceded her in death on October 24, 2010. Survivors include one daughter, Dr. Lisa (Bob) Bergeron, of Fort Wayne; one son, John Paul (Kelly) Gulyás, of Greenfield, Indiana; four grandchildren, Ian and Henry Gulyás, and Robby and Mary Bergeron; one sister, Mary Ida (Paul) Fry, of Edon, Ohio; and three brothers, George W. “Bill” Hartley, of Royal Oak, Michigan, Clarence (Jean) Hartley, of Conway, South Carolina, and Richard (Barbara) Hartley, of Edgerton. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, in St. Mary Catholic Church, Edgerton, with Reverend David Cirata officiating. Visitation will be held in the church for two hours prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Edgerton. Memorials are requested to a Catholic school of the donor’s choice or to the Foundation for Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders.
