Opal M. Engler, age 99, of Edgerton, Ohio, died at 5:30 A.M. on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at Community Memorial Hospital in Hicksville, Ohio, where she was a patient, after a brief illness. Mrs. Engler was a 1931 graduate of Farmer High school, a homemaker, a member of the Edgerton Church of Christ, the Ladies Aid of the church and the Pythian Sisters. In her youth, she played trumpet in Hart’s All-Girl Band in Hicksville, Ohio. She enjoyed traveling to Florida and spent her winters there from 1971-2008. Opal M. Engler was born on November 9, 1913, near Farmer, Ohio, the daughter of Sherman and Susie (Miller) Blosser. She married K.O. Engler on January 2, 1931, and he preceded her in death on August 4, 1978. Survivors include three daughters, Kay Dennis and Kathy (Keith) Whitman, both of Edgerton, and Karen (Robert) Kensill, of Rincon, Georgia; a daughter-in-law, Judy Engler, of Edgerton; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Bryon and Dennis Engler, an infant son, Owen Dee Engler, an infant grandson, Ricky Dennis, five brothers, Herbert, Ralph “Chuck”, Richard, Clifford “Tip” and Harry Blosser, two sisters, LaRue Burley and Edith Whitman, and an infant sister, Wilma Blosser. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at 2:00 P.M. in the Edgerton Church of Christ with Pastor Donny Goff and her grandson, Kevin Whitman, officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Edgerton. The family will receive visitors in the church for two hours prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 noon. Memorials are requested to the Edgerton Church of Christ.
