Edith M. Deken, age 76, of Edgerton, Ohio, died at 7:40 A.M. on Friday, July 19, 2013, at Park View Nursing Center in Edgerton, surrounded by her family after a brief illness. Mrs. Deken was employed as a cook at numerous places in the area during her career, including the Senior Center in Montpelier, Ohio, the Moose Lodge and V.F.W. in Angola, Indiana, and the Bryan Eagles to name a few. She was known for her potato salad and her pies. Her memberships included the Angola V.F.W. Auxiliary and she formerly was a longtime member of Bryan Eagles, Aerie #2233. Edith M. Deken was born on June 9, 1937, near Edon, Ohio, the daughter of Leslie P. and Viola (Favourite) Strup. She was married to Charles Keith Thompson and then to Kenneth Paul “Tiny” Deken, who both preceded her in death. Survivors include her five children, Leslie (Dawn) Thompson, of Edgerton, Susan (Dean) Craven, of Edon, Ohio, Debra (Gus) Lautermilch, of Pioneer, Ohio, Karen (David) Cass, of Edgerton, and Keith (Sandy) Thompson, of Edgerton, fourteen grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister, Julia Peterson, of Edgerton, and three brothers, John Strup, of Edgerton, Charles (Penny) Strup, of Delta, Ohio, and Joe (Barbara) Strup, of Seattle, Washington. Preceding her in death in addition to her husbands were her parents and two sisters, Nora Wilson and Rose Miller. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton. Services will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, with Pastor Rob Studer officiating. Interment will follow in the Butler Cemetery, Butler, Indiana. Memorials are requested to the Williams County Humane Society.
