Charles M. Knight, age 77, died at 2:57 P.M. on Friday, June 28, 2013, at Vibra Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he was a patient, after an illness of three weeks. Mr. Knight was a 1953 graduate of Edon High School and worked as a farmer and also a salesman with Peltcs Lumber in Montpelier, Ohio, for more than thirty years. He was currently serving as a Richland Township trustee in Steuben County, Indiana, and was active in the Republican party as an advisor in Richland Township and as a precinct chairman. His memberships included the Edon United Methodist Church, Hamilton Fish and Game, Edon Lions Club, Pheasants Forever and the National Wild Turkey Federation. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, gardening, woodworking, and working in his apple orchard and was an active supporter of 4-H in Steuben County. For nearly fifty years he attended all kinds of sporting events that involved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Charles M. Knight was born on September 4, 1935, near Edon, Ohio, the son of Myron W. and Gladys M. (Tingler) Knight. He married Mary Elaine Miller on February 14, 1955, in Edon and she survives. Survivors also include four daughters, Sherry (James) Steffen, of Waterloo, Indiana, Deborah (Earl) Mutzfeld, of Hamilton, Ann (Frank) Charlton, of Fremont, Indiana, and Cynthia (Jeff) Word, of Edon; one son, Charles A. Knight, of Edon; fifteen grandchildren, Chanel and Reed Steffen, Stephanie (Jamie) Hunt, Brandon (Jamie) Cox, Brian (Jodi) Cox, Tracy Bryant, Chadd Myers, Jarrod Charlton, Jessica Charlton, Branigan (Julie) Word, Lindsay Word, Christie (Steve) Trueluck, Brent Mutzfeld, Lee Bard and Mark Bard; twenty-one great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Aldis (Dianne Renner) Knight, of Lafayette, Indiana, and one sister, Nancy (Van) Jones, of Wilmington, Ohio. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the Krill Funeral Home in Edon. Services will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. in the Edon United Methodist Church with Pastor David Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Edon Cemetery. Memorials are requested to Steuben County 4-H.
