John Orrin Lundy

John Orrin Lundy, age 91, of Port Hueneme, California, and Edgerton, Ohio, passed away on March 24, 2013, following a short illness. John was born in Bowling Green, Ohio, on July 5, 1921, the son of Orrin and Julia (Johnson) Lundy. He was married to Betty McClellan on May 12, 1944, in Norfolk, Virginia. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 68 years; his daughter, Darlene (Ronald) Martin, of Ojai, California, and his son, Orrin (Patricia) Lundy, of Washougal, Washington; his five grandchildren, Scott (Kristina) Martin, of Roseville, California, Dawn (Eric) Oakley, of Yuba City, California, Darin (Julie) Martin, of Roseville, California, Kristen (Andrew) Springer, of Hillsboro, Oregon, and John Lundy, of Washougal, Washington; and ten great-grandchildren, Sarah and Emily Martin, Graham, Alec and Chad Oakley, Alex, Shea and Ian Martin, and Dylan and Lola Springer. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Marilyn Lundy, of Edgerton, Ohio, a brother-in-law, Russell McClellan, also of Edgerton, and several nieces and nephews. John was a member of the Oxnard Seventh-day Adventist Church for over 40 years. He was Head Elder for many years and was very active in all phases of the church. He was a Sabbath School Teacher, Superintendent, Treasurer, and Pathfinder Leader. He was currently a member of the Trinity Seventh-day Adventist Church, Defiance, Ohio. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II in the North Atlantic and on Okinawa. He was in the U.S. Naval Reserves and then served during the Korean War. He was a good provider and at times he worked two jobs at the same time. He attended Ford Trade School in Dearborn, Michigan, and worked at the Ford Factory before entering the Navy. After being discharged, he worked at The Aro Equipment Corp. in Bryan, Ohio. After his discharge from the Korean War, he and his family moved to Oxnard, California. He worked for the Bank of America in Camarillo, California, then worked as Business Manager for Dr. Antonio Muff for several years before working at Pacific Missile Test Center in the Electronic Warfare Division. During that time he spent over 20 summers commercial fishing in Alaska with his son, Orrin. He was CEO of a non-profit organization “The Spoken Word” for over 30 years, producing religious Sabbath School Helps for Teachers and albums for “The Kings Heralds Quartet." Under his leadership, the group won multiple “Angel Awards.” John had a private pilot's license and he loved to fly. At his passing, he was still talking about getting his license renewed. He also loved to travel. He had visited many countries and had been in all 50 states, most of them many times. He and his wife, Betty, have been to Germany, Scotland, Holland, Canada, Mexico, South America, many places in the Caribbean, and the Panama Canal. He also made a trip to Africa on a concert tour with “The Kings Heralds.” Preceding him in death was his father, Orrin Lundy, his mother, Julia Lundy Thiel, his step-father, Adam Thiel, his sister, Ellen Sanders, and his brother, Marvin Lundy. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday April 1, 2013, at the Krill Funeral Home, 114 East Hull Street, Edgerton, Ohio, with Pastor Peter Simpson officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service, from 12:00-2:00 P.M. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton. Memorials are requested to the Trinity Seventh-day Adventist Church, 20287 State Route 18, Defiance, Ohio, or Camarillo Seventh-day Adventist Church, 3975 East Las Posas Road, Camarillo, CA 93010.
