Eldred Hug, age 95, of rural Edon, Ohio, died at 8:40 A.M. on Friday, March 22, 2013, in the Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center, surrounded by family. A pillar of the community, Mr. Hug was a successful farmer who enjoyed inventing various tools and tinkering around the farm. He also began Hug’s Saw Mill in 1942 and built it into a thriving business. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Blakeslee, Ohio. Eldred was a welcome sight in the front pew every Saturday night. Eldred was born on September 30, 1917, in Williams County, Ohio, at the home of his parents, August and Flora (Reis) Hug. He married Marie Bender on April 30, 1938, in Edgerton, Ohio. Marie died at age 89 in 2009. Surviving are four daughters, Karol (Marlin) Livensparger, of Edon, Judith Davis, of Edgerton, Ohio, Kathy (Don) Blausey, of Baraboo, Wisconsin, and Elizabeth (Walter) Greaux, of Bryan, Ohio; six sons, Edward Hug, of Edgerton, Gary (Pam) Hug, of Carmel, Indiana, James (Holly) Hug, of Wilmington, North Carolina, Mike (Pam) Hug, of Edon, Ohio, Mark (Kate) Hug, of Flemington, New Jersey, and Brent (Anne) Hug, of Fort Wayne, Indiana; 30 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, and so many more great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Hug, in 1983; one son-in-law, Denver Davis; three brothers, Father Edward Hug, Father Fredrick Hug, and Relmond Hug; four sisters, Oliviene Dietsch, Dorothy Siebenaler, Virginia Kunisch, and Marlene Alter; one granddaughter, Gina Hug; and one great-grandson, Jacob Livensparger. Services for Eldred Hug will be held on Monday, March 25, 2013, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Blakeslee, Ohio, with Father David Cirata officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Blakeslee, Ohio. Visitation will be held from 2:00-8:00 P.M. at the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, Ohio, on Sunday, March 24, 2013, with a scripture service at 7:30 P.M.
