Maurice C. Burkhart, age 94, of Auburn, Indiana, and formerly a longtime resident of Edgerton, Ohio, died at 9:50 A.M. on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Center in Garrett, Indiana, where he was a resident. A 1937 graduate of Edgerton High School, Mr. Burkhart was a lifelong farmer, retiring from farming in 1985. He also drove school bus for Edgerton Local Schools for twelve years and had worked as a carpenter with Pretz Stark Construction in Edgerton. He was a member of the Edgerton Church of Christ, Do-it-Right Farm Bureau Council for more than fifty years, the Card Club, and Edgerton Masonic Lodge, #357 F & AM. For many years he was head of weed spraying at Hamilton Lake. Maurice C. Burkhart was born on November 23, 1918, near Edgerton, the son of Charles V. and Erma M. (Suffel) Burkhart. He married his wife of seventy-two years, Emma Maxine “Packie” David, on December 10, 1938, in Spencerville, Indiana, and she preceded him in death on January 11, 2011. Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Davis, of Glendale, California, and Dawn (Dan) Nichter, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and two grandchildren, Richard Yarger II and Megan Nichter. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin and Boyd Burkhart. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton. Services will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. in the Edgerton Church of Christ with D.V. Dillinger, Minister officiating. Private interment will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery, Edgerton.
