Verland R. Walder, age 87, of rural Grandbury, Texas and formerly of Stephenville, Texas, died Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Granbury Care Center in Granbury, Texas where he was a resident. He was a long time farmer in Aurora and Paw Paw, Illinois and a Mechanical Engineer for Western Electric/ AT&T. He was a member of the local amateur radio club in McAllen, Texas. He was a Army Air Corp veteran serving during World War II. Born April 25, 1925 in the Chicago area, he was the son of George and Hazel (Loney) Walder. He graduated from Michigan State College (now University). On December 21, 1947 he married Shirley Foote in Aurora, Illinois and she survives. Verland is also survived by his daughter, Reverend Becky (John) Ploughe, of Bryan, Ohio; son, Dr. Lon Walder, D.O., of Stephenville, Texas; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, William R. Walder. A memorial service for Verland R. Walder will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 7:00 P.M. in the parsonage of Pulaski/Evansport United Methodist Churches, the home of his daughter. Memorials in the name of Verland R. Walder may be given to the Michigan State University School of Agriculture.
