Dennis E. Engler

Dennis E. Engler, age 70, of Edgerton, Ohio, died at 1:10 A.M. on Monday, March 4, 2013, at Bryan Care and Rehabilitation Center in Bryan, Ohio, where he was a patient. Mr. Engler was a member of the Edgerton High School class of 1960. He was long-time truck driver and also had been employed at Mercury Signs and several other area factories throughout the years. He was a member of the Edgerton Church of Christ, where he served for many years as an Elder. Dennis was among the racing legends in the tri-state area in the 60s and 70s, driving late models, sprint cars and motorcycles, and was a member of the Steuben County Speedway Hall of Fame. As a musician, he played in several area bands; as an avid golfer, he experienced the joy of scoring the ever illusive hole-in-one; and as an avid motorcyclist, he enjoyed the open road. For many years, he enjoyed spending his winters in Florida with his mother and sister and very rarely missed the opportunity to shop a garage sale. Dennis E. Engler was born near Farmer, Ohio, on October 30, 1942, the son of K.O. and Opal (Blosser) Engler Survivors include his mother, Opal Engler, of Edgerton; his children, Debra K. (David) Engler-Boetz, of Bryan, John Engler, of Edgerton, and Amy Jo (Keith) Dunlap, of Mark Center, Ohio; three grandchildren, Lacy Jo Gorsuch, Mariah Dunlap and Miranda Elizabeth Dunlap; one great-granddaughter, Riley Jo Gorsuch, three sisters, Kay Dennis and Kathy (Keith) Whitman, both of Edgerton, and Karen (Bob) Kensill, of Rincon, Georgia; a sister-in-law, Judy Engler, of Edgerton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, his brother, Byron Engler, and an infant brother, Owen Dee Engler. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2013, from 3:00-5:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home in Edgerton. Services celebrating the life of Dennis E. Engler will follow in the funeral home, beginning at 5:00 P.M with D.V. Dillinger, Minister officiating. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton. Memorials are requested to Edgerton Church of Christ or a charity of the donor’s choice.
