Maurice W. Kaiser

Maurice W. Kaiser, age 86, of Edon, Ohio, passed away at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 24, 2013, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he was a patient. Mr. Kaiser was a 1944 graduate of Edon High School and served in the Pacific with the United States Navy during World War II. He then graduated from The Ohio State University in 1951 and taught Vo-Ag at Bloomdale, Ohio, for two years and then managed the grain elevators in Vickery and Erlin, Ohio, for four years before returning to Bloomdale to manage their elevator. In 1960 he became the manager of the Edon Farmers Co-op, retiring in 1989. He served on the Ohio Grain and Feed Dealer Association board from 1984-1988. Maurice was a member of the Edon United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Edon Lions Club. He was also an avid fisherman and Ohio State Buckeye fan. Maurice W. Kaiser was born on January 8, 1927, near Edon, the son of Maurice and Erma (Newman) Kaiser. He married Sherrie Dean on October 5, 1951, in Edon and she survives. In addition to his loving wife, survivors include his five children, Jennifer, (Joseph) Hays, of Edon, Brian Kaiser, of Angola, Indiana, Brenda (Thomas) Avers, of Archbold, Ohio, Steven Kaiser, of Angola, and Annette (Michael) Peckham, of Edon; eight grandchildren, Carla (Jeremy) Gardner, Lindsey (Richard) Brown, Matthew (Jennifer) Hays, Spencer Kaiser, Madelyn Kaiser, Andrea Avers, James Peckham, and Eliza Avers, four great-grandchildren, Marin Gardner, Emma Grace Brown, Kellyn Gardner and Daniel Hays. Also surviving are one sister, Ellen Harrington, of Bryan, Ohio, and one brother, David (Inge) Kaiser, of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by one son, Michael Kaiser, in 2005, one granddaughter, Shelby Kaiser, and one brother, James Kaiser. Services will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. in the Edon United Methodist Church with Pastor David Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Edon Cemetery with grave side military rites conducted by the Edon American Legion. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2013, from 2:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home in Edon. Memorials are requested to the Edon United Methodist Church or to the Kidney Foundation of Northwest Ohio.
