Lester D. Rohrs, age 86, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 7:15 A.M. on Friday, January 11, 2013, at Dream Haven Assisted Living in Edgerton, Ohio, where he had been a patient since September 26, 2011. Les had worked for 50 Corporation in Bryan for sixteen years. When he took a job in Clanton, Alabama, for two years, he accepted a job in Forest Park, Georgia, working there for three years. Moving back to Bryan in 1972, he went to work for 50+5 in West Unity, Ohio, until its closing. While working there, he attended real estate school. Upon completion and passing his state exam, he joined Hallock Realty and later transferred to McKarns Real Estate. Les was instrumental in getting a state-recognized auction school started at Northwest State Community College, where he took up auctioneering. Upon passing his state exam in 1976, he started Rohrs Auction Service. He then purchased McKarns Real Estate in 1985 and in 1987 the name was changed to Rohrs Real Estate and Auction Service. Les operated his business and also purchased houses in disrepair in the Bryan area to renovate and restore until he retired in 1993. In his retirement years, Les enjoyed going to their home in Leesburg, Florida, for the winter months. While in Florida, he liked hanging out with friends and helping people when he could. In the summer months in Ohio, he enjoyed his family and friends and doing what he could to help others. Les was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II. He attended the First Baptist Church in Bryan and the Baptist Church in Leesburg. He was actively involved in the church, whether it was in Bryan or Leesburg. Lester D. Rohrs was born on October 27, 1926, in Hicksville, Ohio, the son of Rev. John and Forence (Smith) Rohrs. He married his wife of sixty-six years, Irene C. Easler, on July 26, 1946, and she survives. Also surviving are three sons, Ronnie (Marie) Rohrs, of Bryan, Stanley (Annette) Rohrs, of Newnan, Georgia, and Gary (Neecy) Rohrs, of Columbia City, Indiana; one daughter, Kathy (David) Abata, of Chicago, Illinois; ten grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one step-great-great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandchild due on January 30. Also surviving are one sister, Florence Fields, in South Carolina, and one brother, Floyd (Dollene) Rohrs, of Antwerp, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Maratha; a son, James; a great-granddaughter; four sisters, Dora Shaffer, Kate Cather, Phyllis Humrickhouse and LaVern Grupp; and two brothers, Deloy and Paul Rohrs. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, in the funeral home with Pastor John MacFarlane officiating. Interment will follow in Shiffler Cemetery, near Bryan, with military grave side honors conducted by the Naval Honor Detachment of Toledo, Ohio, and the Bryan VFW Post #2489. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Lester’s name to the First Baptist Church, Bryan.
