John D. Shaw

John D. Shaw, age 88, of Port Charlotte, Florida, and formerly of rural Montpelier, Ohio, died at 2:05 P.M. on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at Peace River Regional Medical Center in Port Charlotte, where he was a patient. Mr. Shaw was a 1942 graduate of Stryker High School and served with United States Army during World War II, where he was awarded three Bronze Stars. He worked for Bard Manufacturing in Bryan for twenty years and then was self-employed in furnace sales and service for the next twenty years until his retirement. John D. Shaw was born on January 13, 1924, in Stryker, Ohio, the son of Clarence Raymond and Lena (Stambaugh) Shaw. He married Dorothy Mae Stevens on March 9, 1947, in Montpelier, Ohio, and she survives. Survivors also include two sons, Daniel Shaw, of Port Charlotte, and Samuel (Jill) Shaw, of Montpelier, three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Johnathon Wayne Shaw, in 1955. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 16, 2012, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, Ohio. Services will be held on Monday, December 17, 2012, at 11:00 A.M. in Bethlehem Christian Union Church near Edon, Ohio, with Pastors Mike Slagle and George Cole officiating. Grave side services will be held in Floral Grove Cemetery, West Unity, Ohio, at 1:30 P.M. on Monday, December 17, with grave side military rites conducted by Bryan VFW Post #2489. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Gideon’s International or to Bethlehem Christian Union Church.
