Elden L. “Ben” Carpenter, age 87, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2012, at Bryan Care & Rehabilitation Center, Bryan. He worked in the Engineering and I.B.M. Departments at The Aro Corporation for over 40 years. After his retirement, he worked as a realtor and auctioneer with Mohre-Wilson Auction & Realty Company. He was a former member of the Missionary Alliance Church in Bryan, where he was very active in church activities and was a long-time Sunday School teacher. Mr. Carpenter served in the Army-Air Force during World War II in the China-Burma-India theater. He was an avid sports enthusiast, especially baseball. He played on many different local teams. He coached Little League for years and was a fan of the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Browns. Born on October 22, 1925, in Bryan, he was the son of Filmore and Emma (Merillat) Carpenter. He married Mary A. Leslie on June 16, 1972, and she survives. Mr. Carpenter is also survived by his daughters, Deborah Carpenter, of Jackson, Michigan, Linda (Michael) Woodward, of Lancaster, Ohio, and Janet (Alan) Martin, of Findlay, Ohio; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were a brother, Millard Carpenter, and a sister, Marie Broadbeck. Private funeral services will be held at the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio, with Pastor John MacFarlane officiating. Interment will follow in Shiffler Cemetery. Grave side military rites will be provided by the Bryan American Legion Post #284. Memorials in the name of Elden L. “Ben” Carpenter may be given to the Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers Hospital Hospice and Home Health.
