Thomas I. Chaney, age 79, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 9:34 A.M. on Sunday, November 18, 2012, shortly after admittance to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Bryan. Mr. Chaney served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1953 as a Medical Technician, Airman First Class. He worked in retail sales for Cook United in Cleveland, Ohio, from 1955-1975 and then purchased the Gambles Hardware store in Delta, Ohio, which he operated from 1975 until his retirement in 1995. In his retirement he attended New Hope Community Church in Bryan and enjoyed playing golf, bowling and playing cards. Thomas I. Chaney was born on June 19, 1933, in Wanesburg, Pennsylvania, the son of Thomas and Minnie (Vile) Chaney. He married Bonnie K. Garber on October 4, 1954, in Winchester, Virginia, and she survives. Survivors also include two sons, Thomas (Mary Kay) Chaney, of Columbus, Ohio, and Carl (Kim) Chaney, of Bryan; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Genuske, of Youngstown, Ohio, and Annie Strickland, of Warren, Ohio; one brother, Carl (Sandy) Brookover, of Cleveland, Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Chaney, of Plattsburgh, New York. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, and one brother, George Chaney. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 23, 2012, from 2:00-5:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Services will follow in the funeral home at 5:00 P.M. with Pastor Clarence Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be private. Memorials are requested to Bryan Senior Center Parkinson’s Support Group.
