Evelyn U. Whitney, 83, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 5:55 A.M. on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at Bryan Care and Rehabilitation Center, where she was a resident. Mrs. Whitney was a 1946 graduate of Kenmore High School in Akron, Ohio, and was a 1953 graduate of the Akron City Hospital/Akron University Registered Nursing program. She worked as a registered nurse on the orthopedics floor at St.Joseph’s Hospital in Lorain, Ohio, for more than 25 years and retired as the head nurse of its Orthopedics Unit. She was also a lifelong fan of radio and loved purses, sewing, and reading. Evelyn Una Missall was born on March 14, 1929, in Staten Island, New York, the daughter of Una (Taylor) and Robert C. Missall. She married John M. Whitney on November 23, 1949, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on May 3, 2012. Mrs. Whitney is survived by her brother, Robert Taylor Missall, of Lady Lake, Florida, and by her two sons, Robert (Peg) Whitney, of Bryan, and Michael (Lynette) Whitney, of Seven Hills, Ohio; two daughters, Kay King, of Churusbusco, Indiana, and Una (Dave) King, of Lodi, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 1:00–3:00 P.M. on Friday, September 21, 2012, in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio. Services will follow at 3:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Bryan, with Pastor Larry Snavely officiating. The family suggests that memorials be given to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association.
