Douglas R. “Doug” Hershberger, age 53, of Bryan, Ohio, died early Saturday morning, September 15, 2012, at his residence. Doug was a 1977 graduate of Hilltop High School (West Unity) and was the Parts and Sales Manager for Maneval Service in Bryan, Ohio. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bryan and opened his home to International Exchange Students from Vietnam, China, Azerbaijan, Guatemala, Paraguay, Switzerland, Korea, Belgium, Uruguay, Finland, Japan, France, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Thailand, Belarus and Kazakhstan. Douglas R. Hershberger was born on August 24, 1959, in Massillon, Ohio, the son of Paul E. and Ruth E. Hershberger. He married Donna J. Powell in Montpelier, Ohio, on July 12, 1980. Doug is survived by his wife; sons, Andrew (Hessy) Hershberger, of Defiance, Ohio, and Daniel Hershberger, of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Issac and Eliana Hershberger and Amiah Hahn, all of Defiance; brother, David (Stephanie) Hershberger, of Stryker, Ohio; sister, Cindy (Dennis) Striker, of Mansfield, Ohio; his father, Paul E. Hershberger, of Stryker; and their current exchange student, Mai Dinh, from Vietnam. Preceding him in death were his mother, Ruth E. Hershberger, and sister, Connie Hershberger. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bryan with Pastor Mary Beth Smith-Gunn officiating. Visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 P.M. at the church prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church.
