William “Vernard” Heisler, age 88, of Edon, Ohio, died in his home on Tuesday, July 24, 2012. He was born on October 27, 1923, to Steward and Clara (Beerbower) Heisler of Farmer, Ohio. He was the second of four children. Vernard served in WWII and the war took him to Africa, the South Pacific, and Italy. After the war he returned to the Farmer area and bought a farm and in 1948 he married Violet Campbell of Camden, Michigan. Together they raised four children and operated a dairy farm for 38 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Edgerton and the Farmer American Legion, of which he was longtime sergeant-of-arms. His wife, Violet, died in 1992 and Vernard later moved to Bryan, Ohio. Vernard married Ila (Jump) Houk of Montpelier in 1994. He resided in Edon, Ohio, the past ten years. Vernard enjoyed spending time with family, and after retirement he enjoyed traveling and time at the lake. He is survived by his children, James (Mary) Heisler, of Bryan, John (Jamie) Heisler, of Hamilton, Indiana, Marjean Heisler of Helena, Montana, and Mark (Wendy) Heisler, of Farmer; his stepchildren, Koni (Gene) Lautzenheizer, of Edon, and Kathy (the late Gary) Hogrefe, of Reidsville, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Tim (Jamie) Heisler, Megan (Brad) Hruska, Bryan Heisler, Ashley Heisler, Blake Heisler, and Blaine Heisler; step-grandchildren, Suzie (Pat) McCullough, Scott (Lea) Lautzenheizer, Matt (the late Heidi) Hogrefe, and Kristi (Bernie) Sochia; and four great-grandchildren, Aiden Heisler, Taylor Heisler, Keedan Heisler, and Kyla Murphy. He is also survived by a sister, Virginia (the late Harold) Brown, of Bryan, and a brother, Vance (Arlene) Heisler, of Ney, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and step-great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Violet, wife Ila, sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Charles Uran, and a brother-in-law, Harold Brown. Funeral services will be held at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Edgerton, on Friday, July 27, 2012, at 11:00 A.M., with interment following at Farmer Cemetery. Military grave side rites will be conducted by Farmer American Legion Post #137. Visitation will be held at Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 26, 2012. Memorials may be made to Edgerton Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Farmer American Legion, or C.H.W.C. Hospital Hospice and Home Health.
