Duane D. Rinkel, age 69, of rural Bryan, Ohio, died at 5:00 A.M. on Sunday, June 10, 2012, at Bryan Care and Rehabilitation Center where he had been a patient since Wednesday. Mr. Rinkel was a 1960 graduate of Edgerton High School where he was a member of the 1959 State Championship Basketball Team. He was a lifelong farmer working on the family farm near Bryan and was also employed as a tool and die maker with Challenge-Cook Bros. for many years until the plant closed and then worked for NEMCO in Hicksville, Ohio and retired from Martin-Sprocket, in Montpelier, Ohio. He also served in the Army Reserves from 1964-1970. Duane was an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a sports enthusiast, playing basketball for the Edgerton Town Team sponsored by Strup Insurance and also played fast-pitch softball and bowled for the Pierce Sunoco Teams in Edgerton. Most of all he enjoyed following Edgerton athletics and watching his nieces and nephews participate in their sporting events and activities. Duane D. Rinkel was born on August 6, 1942, in Defiance, Ohio, the son of James P. and Dortha G. (Crites) Rinkel, Sr. Survivors include one brother, James P. (Margie) Rinkel, Jr., of Bryan, two nephews, Tony J. Rinkel, of St. Mary’s, Ohio, and Scott A. (Tricia) Rinkel, of Defiance, Ohio, one niece, Melissa (Scott) Maneval, of West Unity, Ohio and five great-nieces and great-nephews, Alexandra, Emily and Timothy Maneval and Landon and Lance Rinkel. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, from 2:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Services will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street in Bryan. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Edgerton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Williams County Humane Society, Calvary United Methodist Church in Williams Center, Ohio, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
