Carl Dean Bowles

Carl Dean Bowles, age 89, of Edon, Ohio, died at 1:13 P.M. on Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Visiting Nurses and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne, Indiana, after suffering a stroke. Dean was a 1941 graduate of Edon High School and was a lifelong farmer and resident of Northwest Township. He served as a medical technician in the Army during World War II, attached to the 311th Medical Battalion in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. His passions were gardening, hunting, fishing, making maple syrup and animals. Carl Dean Bowles was born on April 18, 1923, in Metz, Indiana, the son of Ralph and Hazel (Tuttle) Bowles. He married Veryle Cox on June 4, 1943, and she preceded him in death on March 9, 1986. Survivors include four sons, Larry (Dale) Bowles, of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, Lonny (Rose) Bowles, of Alvordton, Ohio, Gary (Kathleen) Bowles, of Edon, and Ricky (Dorcas) Bowles, of Spring Hill, Tennessee; two daughters, Kathy Bowles, of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Sherry (Michael) Amstutz, of Fort Wayne; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie Hake, of Phoenix, Arizona; one brother, Bill Bowles, of Sun City, Arizona, and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his loving companion, who was always at his side, his little dog, Rosie. He was also preceded in death by one grandchild, Raymond Friery, one brother, Bob, three sisters, Marie, Mary and Margaret, and his second wife, Winnie. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 25, 2012, from 2:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, Ohio. Services celebrating the life of Dean Bowles will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at 11:00 A.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, with Reverend Robert Chroninger and Reverend Ed Shady officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Montpelier, Ohio, with grave side military rites conducted by Edon American Legion Post #662.
