John M. Whitney, age 83, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 4:40 A.M. on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Bryan Care and Rehabilitation Center, where he was a patient, after a brief illness. Mr. Whitney was a graduate of Kenmore High School in Akron, Ohio, and joined the United State Army, serving in Korea from 1947-1948. He graduated from the University of Akron and took a position as a chemist with the B.F. Goodrich Chemical Company, where he remained until his retirement, as the head of their Quality Control program. John was an avid fisherman and woodworker and loved his dogs. John W. Whitney was born on August 19, 1928, in Akron, Ohio, the son of Leon E. and Lucy Marie (Jeandreven) Whitney. He married Evelyn Una Missall on November 23, 1949, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and she survives. Survivors also include two sons, Robert (Peg) Whitney, of Bryan, and Michael (Lynette) Whitney, of Seven Hills, Ohio; two daughters, Kay King, of Churubusco, Indiana, and Una (Dave) King, of Lodi, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2012, from 1:00-3:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Services will follow at 5:00 P.M. on Saturday in the Krill Funeral Home, Bryan, with Pastor Larry Snavely officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Bryan V.F.W. Post #2489. Memorials are requested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
