Jean M. MacFarlane, age 73, of Bryan, Ohio, died early on Friday, April 13, 2012, at Bryan Care and Rehabilitation Center in Bryan, Ohio, where she was a resident, after an extended illness. She was also a longtime resident of Frontier, Michigan. Mrs. MacFarlane was an accomplished musician who in her youth played the piano and accordion and won a scholarship to the Winona Lake Music Institute with her sisters for their vocal talents. She had also played with Blackwoods and she was unique in that she played her music by ear instead of with sheet music. Jean M. MacFarlane was born on December 20, 1938, in Hillsdale, Michigan, the daughter of Farn Henry and Ethel “Lemoyne” (Lougheed) Salmon. Survivors include her children, Ronda (Tony) Garbin, of Bryan, Ron MacFarlane, of Camden, Michigan, Rene (Matt) Hurd, of Bryan, and Michael (Jana) MacFarlane, of Leo, Indiana, sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Jeanine (Raymond) Allen, of Montpelier, Ohio, and Jan (Gary) Roberson, of Davison, Michigan. Services will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at 12:00 P.M. in Grace Community Church with Pastor Michael Kelly officiating. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 A.M., in the church. Memorials are requested to the family to help defray expenses.
