LaVon Eschhofen, age 83, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, in his home, with the help of the Bryan Hospital Hospice team. He was born on October 30, 1928, near Edgerton, Ohio, to Mildred (Reichman) and Louden Eschhofen. He graduated from Bryan High School in 1946 and joined his father in farming, an occupation which he dearly loved. On January 16, 1949, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Johnston, and they resided on the farm north of Bryan for forty years before moving to Norlick Place in 1989. They also built a home on the 15th green at River Greens Golf Course in Avon Park, Florida, where they spent their winters for 25 years. LaVon was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir, and was a former member of the Pulaski United Methodist Church, where he had served in many capacities. He was also a former member of SPEBSQSA. LaVon served several years on the Pulaski School Board, six years on the Landmark Board, six years as supervisor of the Soil and Water Conservation District, and five years on the Ohio Beef Council. He had also served on the Farm Bureau Board and as an advisor to 4-H. LaVon was proud of the medal he received in 1941 for winning the Williams County Spelling Bee. While in high school, he was on the track team that won the NWOL meet in 1946. He ran low hurdles, the mile relay, and the ½ mile relay. LaVon had been an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds since the age of 12, and after retirement he enjoyed the game of golf as his health permitted. Besides his wife, Barbara, survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael, of Cleveland, Ohio, David, of Pensacola, Florida, and Jeffrey and Sherri, of Bryan; three granddaughters, Jessica of Ft. Myers, Florida, and Stephanie and Sindy, of Bryan; his sister, Aileene Christman, of Bryan, and a brother and sister-in-law, Buddie and Carol Eschhofen, also of Bryan.
