Richard Duane “R.D.” Herman, age 92, of Edon, Ohio, died at 11:30 P.M. on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Bryan Care and Rehabilitation Center in Bryan, Ohio, after an extended illness. A 1938 graduate of Edon High School, Mr. Herman was a lifelong resident of Edon. He was a poultry farmer, raising chickens, and also was a carpenter. Richard was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the Edon American Legion Post #662. Richard Duane Herman was born on March 1, 1920, in Hamilton, Indiana, the son of William H. and Thelma (Aldrich) Herman, Sr. He married Hazel V. Guillaume on June 1, 1940, in Blakselee, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on September 27, 2011. Mr. Herman is survived by two daughters, Sandy (Larry) Fosler, of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Nancy (Chad) Dunnavan, of Angola, Indiana; three sons, Dave (Roma) Herman, of Valhalla, New York, Tom (Dee) Herman, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Jeff (Debbie) Herman, of Edon; a daughter-in-law, Janice Herman, also of Angola; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Dottie Roberts, of Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was preceded in death by one son, Dick Herman, and one brother, William H. Herman, Jr., and two sisters, Ann Haas and Bettie Meyer. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, from 4:00-7:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home in Edon. Services will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Roger Marlow officiating. Interment will follow in Edon Cemetery with grave side military rites conducted by Edon American Legion Post #662. Memorials are requested to Bryan Care and Rehabilitation Center.
