Mary “Joan” Joice, age 81, of Edon, Ohio, died unexpectedly on Monday, March 5, 2012, in her home. Mrs. Joice retired from the Ohio Turnpike, where she was a toll collector, with more than twenty-five years of service. Mary “Joan” Joice was born on September 18, 1931, in Washington, Indiana, the daughter of Omar C. and Esther C. (Wuertz) Cannon. She married Charles F. Racette and he preceded her in death in 1957. She then married W. Dale Joice on November 7, 1958, in Edon, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on October 14, 2000. Mr. Joice is also survived by three sons, Jon Racette, of Edon, Charles Racette, of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and Marc Joice, of Montpelier, Ohio; two grandchildren, Jessica (John) Baker and Jacob Joice; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Blake and Madison Baker; one sister, Vera Cannon, of Edon; and one brother, Rodney (Sue) Cannon, of Plymouth, Michigan. She was also preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Brooke Baker, one brother, Robert F. Cannon, and one sister, Nina Schneider. Services for Mary “Joan” Joice will be private with Pastor Homer Miller officiating. Interment will be in the Edon Cemetery. Memorials are requested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
