Robert E. Frey

Robert E. Frey, age 88, of Edon, Ohio, died at 2:15 A.M. on Thursday, February 23, 2012, in his home after an illness of several months. Mr. Frey was a 1942 graduate of Pleasant Mills High School and served during World War II as a corporal with a heavy artillery unit. He was employed as a truck driver with Matlack in Bryan for many years and upon retirement drove truck for the Edon Farmers Co-op. Bob was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, where he had been a member of the church council, and the Edon Area Development Corporation and was a longtime member and past president of the Edon Lions Club. He was also a Life Member of Edon American Legion Post #662, was a Life Member of Bryan VFW Post #2489, and was a member of the board of directors of the Williams County Veterans Building of which he was instrumental in construction of the buliding. Robert E. Frey was born on January 25, 1924, in Bryan, Ohio, the son of Carl H. and Fern (Shackley) Frey. He married Mabel G. Nester on August 17, 1943, in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and she preceded him in death on February 12, 1994. Survivors include two sons, Robert J. “John” (Jennifer) Frey, of Sawtry, England, and Robin L. Frey, of Bryan; three grandchildren, Darren Frey, Nicola McAvoy and Andrea Kaduk; and three great-grandchildren, Josh and Bradley McAvoy and Miranda Kaduk. Also surviving are his long -time companion, Christena Headley, of Edon, five brothers, Wayne Frey, of Hudson, Indiana, Charles (Clo) Frey, Keith (Shirley) Frey and Rodger (Gerry) Frey, all of Decatur, Indiana, and John (Kathy) Frey, of St. George, Utah; and one sister, Mary (Richard) Butler, of Front Royal, Virginia. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd “Bud” and James Frey. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2012, from 2:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon. Services will be held on Monday, February 27, 2012, at 10:00 A.M. in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Edon with Pastor Roger Marlow officiating. Interment will follow in Edon Cemetery with grave side military rites conducted by Edon American Legion Post #662. Memorials are requested to the Williams County Veterans Building or to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
