Deloy L. Osmun

Deloy LaVerl Osmun, age 90, of rural Edon, Ohio, died at 10:42 A.M. on Thursday, February 9, 2012, in his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Osmun was a 1940 graduate of Farmer High School. He was a lifelong farmer and had worked as a mechanic for Casebere Motors Sales in Edgerton for many years and then worked at Bryan Custom Plastics in Bryan, Ohio, retiring in 1986 with twenty-six years of service, and continued to work on the family farm until 1990. He was a member of the NRA, the Farm Bureau, and Trinity United Methodist Church in Hicksville, Ohio, and was a former member of the Edon Lions Club. Deloy LaVerl Osmun was born on March 8, 1921, in Farmer Township in Defiance County, Ohio, the son of Dale and Ella (Scranton) Osmun. He married Lucille Wonderly, his wife of seventy years, on January 21, 1942, and she survives. Survivors also include three sons, Dennis Osmun, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Don (Deb) Osmun and David (and Shelly John) Osmun, both of Edon; four daughters, Gloria (Jim) Gilcher, of Kunkle, Ohio, Delores Parish, of Hicksville, Judy (Lee) Baatz, of Columbia City, Indiana, and Sandi (Dean) Nelson, of Denver, North Carolina; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Lavera Haller, of Bryan, Lois (Paul) Howe, of Angola, Indiana, Eleanor (Harold) Rowe, of Hicksville, and Wanda (Lavon) Hoffman, of Bradenton, Florida; two brothers, Loraine “Jake” (Eleanor) Osmun, of Gladwin, Michigan, and Dick (Donna) Osmun, of Grabill, Indiana; and a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Osmun, of Hicksville. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Cleatus and Dallas Osmun, a sister, Opal Smith, and a great-grandson, Craig Campbell. Visitation will be held in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, Ohio, from 2:00-6:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 12, 2012. Services celebrating the life of Deloy L. Osmun will follow at 6:30 P.M. in the funeral home on Sunday with Pastor Tress Hodkinson officiating. In keeping with the wishes of the family, cremation will follow with interment to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers Hospital Hospice or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
