Melvin W. Davis, age 82, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 3:10 A.M. on Monday, January 23, 2012, in his home following an illness of two months. Mr. Davis was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict. After attending barber college in Dayton, Ohio, he was a barber for over fifty years and was co-owner of Mel & Jim’s Barber Shop in Bryan. He was also a bus driver for Bryan City Schools for twenty-seven years. An avid supporter of all Bryan High School athletics, he only missed three home football games in over fifty years. Mr. Davis was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bryan and the Bryan American Legion Post #284 and enjoyed attending the Bryan Senior Center. Melvin W. Davis was born on December 9, 1929, in Mercer, Ohio, the son of Orval K. and Evelyn (Counterman) Davis. He married Donna Mosier on January 23, 1955, in Van Wert, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on June 10, 2005. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah (Steve) Hunziker, of Columbus, Ohio, and Denise Weisner, of Bryan; two sons, Brent (Nancy) Davis, of New Hudson, Michigan, and Michael (Jessica) Davis, also of Bryan; eleven grandchildren, Tiffany (and fiancé, Tyson Gunther) Soff, Chad Davis, Christy (Richard) Wingard, Adam Weisner, Ryan Weisner, Briana Weisner, Tyson Snyder, Travis Snyder, Alyssa Davis, Mattias Davis and Brody Davis; and three great-grandchildren, Ethan Soff, Chloe Soff and Annalise Wingard. Also surviving are one brother, Richard Keith Davis, of Rockford, Ohio; one sister, Sharon Ames, of Fort Wayne, Indiana; three sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Royce) High, of Ohio City, Ohio, Dorothy Mosier, of Bryan, and Nancy (Dave) Hersh, of Atlanta, Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Mr. Davis in death in addition to his wife was one daughter, Cheryl Davis. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2012, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Services will be held on Friday, January 27, 2012, at 11:00 A.M. in the Krill Funeral Home in Bryan with Pastor Barry Sweet officiating. Interment will follow in Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan, with grave side military rites conducted by Bryan American Legion Post #284. Memorials are requested to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers Hospital Hospice.
