Shirley “Skip” McKlem, age 82, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2012, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice near Defiance, where she was a patient. Shirley loved gardening and was a member of the Defiance County Master Gardeners. She was also an avid canoeist and was involved with the Voyager Re-enactments. Shirley McKlem was born on April 11, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Fred and Ophelia Schumacker. She moved to Hicksville in February of 1992 with her mother to be close to family. Survivors include two daughters, Susan Plum, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Kathleen Pizzala, of Salem, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Robert, Jeffrey and Deanna; and one great-grandchild, Addison Marie Pizzala. Also surviving is one brother, Lee Schumacher, of Chicago, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Chuck Schumacher. The will be no services at this time. The family requests memorials contribution be sent to Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice, 06817 State Route 66N, Defiance, Ohio.
