Charles E. “Charlie” Carpenter, Sr., age 74, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 4:10 A.M. on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, in his home after an illness of five months. Mr. Carpenter was a retired truck driver for the Isaac Corporation. He was a former member of Bryan Eagles Aerie #2233 and at one time raced modifieds at Bryan Motor Speedway. Charles was also a veteran of the United States Marines, serving in Vietnam. Charles E. Carpenter, Sr. was born on June 26, 1937, in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Samuel and Realina (Robinson) Carpenter. Survivors include two daughters, Lisa (Steve) Hess, of Bryan, and Velma (Carl) Thomas, in Indiana; two sons, Charles E. Carpenter, Jr., of Angola, Indiana, and Matthew (Lyndy) Carpenter, in the United States Army; fifteen grandchildren; and his stepchildren, Tanya Maurer, Kryijztoff “Kryz” Novotnaj, Robert McDargh, Diana Ferrell, and Sandy Brashaw. He was preceded in death by one brother, Samuel, and three sisters, Ann Best, Barb Tope and Juanita Cordell. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 26, 2011, from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Services will follow at 1:30 P.M. on Monday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Fountain Grove Cemetery, with grave side military rites conducted by Bryan VFW Post #2489. Memorials are requested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
