Ruby B. Gruver

Ruby B. Gruver, age 94, of Edgerton, Ohio, died at 10:31 P.M. on Monday, November 14, 2011, in her home after a brief illness. Mrs. Gruver and her husband operated Gruver’s IGA for seventeen years; she then worked for Day’s Furniture and then for the Edgerton V&S Hardware. She was a member of the Edgerton United Methodist Church, where she was a longtime Sunday school teacher and a member of the Pearl Circle. In 1994, she and her husband, Don, were named citizens of the year in Edgerton. Ruby B. Gruver was born on April 11, 1917, near Hicksville, Ohio, the daughter of Frank and Ethel (Green) Obendorf. She married Donald L. Gruver, Sr. on February 26, 1939, in Newville, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on October 5, 2006. Survivors include one son, Donald (Spring Benjamin) Gruver, Jr. of Bryan, Ohio, twelve grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Allen “Pat” (Marilyn) Obendorf, of Montpelier, Ohio, and Richard (Wink) Obendorf, of Butler, Indiana, and one sister, Helen Whitman, of Auburn, Indiana. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Marilyn Madoux, and one son, William Gruver. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 18, 2011, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home in Edgerton. Services will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2011, at 1:30 P.M. in the Edgerton United Methodist Church with Reverend R.L. Barnett officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton. Memorials are requested to the Edgerton United Methodist Church or Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers Hospital Hospice.
