Gerald G. Smith, age 89, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 6:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he had been a patient for one week. Mr. Smith was employed as a tool and die maker with The Aro Corporation in Bryan and retired with forty-one years of service. A veteran of the United States Army, serving in the European Theatre during World War II, he was a member of the Bryan American Legion, of which he was a Past Commander. He was also a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Loyal Order of the Moose in Bryan and was an avid woodworker. Gerald G. Smith was born on November 15, 1921, in Covington, Indiana, the son of George H. and Christina (Gray) Smith. He married Doris Jeanette Maginn on July 28, 1946, in Edon, Ohio, and she survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Linda (Charles) Silkworth, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, one son, Larry (Tamela) Smith, of Bryan, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one sister, Marjorie Miller, of Edon. He was preceded in death by one brother, Dwight Smith. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 11, 2011, from 3:00-6:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011, at 1:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Bryan. Interment will follow in the Edon Cemetery, with grave side military rites conducted by the Bryan American Legion Post #284. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Wesley United Methodist Church.
