Larry J. Wineland, age 70, of rural West Unity, Ohio, died at 1:45 A.M. on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice, Defiance, Ohio, where he was a patient. After graduation from high school, he was employed as a cabinet maker with Heller’s Cabinet Shop in Montpelier, Ohio, until entering the U.S. Army, where he served as a combat engineer in Vietnam. Upon return from the service, he worked as a mechanic with Baltosser’s service station at what was then known as “Corvette Corners, ” now referred to as Ace Corners. He then was employed for twenty years as an ag mechanic and combine specialist with Tri-state Equipment until its closing in 1992. He was also an accomplished gunsmith and enjoyed shooting and attending shooting competitions. An avid reader, he also enjoyed traveling and working on old cars and tractors. Larry J. Wineland was born on May 3, 1941, in West Unity, Ohio, the son of Hugh Kenneth “H.K.” and Helen Alice (Haverfield) Wineland. Survivors include one daughter, Lori (Nathan) Harris, of Bryan, Ohio, a special friend, Sharon Dean, of Bryan, one granddaughter, Alecia Wineland, one great-granddaughter, Bella, one brother, Dave Wineland, of West Unity, and LtC (retired) Jim Woolace, who was like a brother to Larry, of North Pole, Alaska. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Stan Wineland. Grave side services will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2011, at 1:30 P.M. in Shiffler Cemetery near Bryan, Ohio with Pastor Larry Snavely officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Bryan VFW,Post #2489. Memorials are requested to Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice.
