Gary L. Lehmann

Gary L. Lehmann, age 74, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 11:50 A.M. on Monday, October 31, 2011, at Toledo Hospital in Toledo, Ohio, where he was patient after an illness of five days. Mr. Lehmann formerly owned and operated Lehmann Transmission in Bryan for thirty years and also the Nautilus Fitness Center in Bryan from 1988-1991. Currently he was the owner of Sharper Scissors by Rapid Edge. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bryan and regularly attended St. Isidore Catholic Church and was a former member of the Bishop Rappe Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. An avid model airplane flying enthusiast, he was a member of the Hillside Aeromodelers. Gary was known throughout the tri-state area as a top flight sprint car driver and had held track championships at Avilla, Angola and Bryan Motor Speedways and was inducted into the Steuben County Racing Hall of Fame. Gary L. Lehmann was born on November 1, 1936, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Alvin G. and Viola M. (Dennis) Lehmann. He married Janet M. Psurny on November 21, 1954, and she preceded him in death on January 1, 1989. He then married Shirley E. Dangler on June 5, 1993, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Dan (Tamara) Lehmann and Jeffery (Debra) Lehmann, both of Bryan; two daughters, Cindy (William) Spratt, of Hamilton, Indiana, and Lisa Poncsak, of Bryan; one stepdaughter, Jodi (Lee) Day, of Lebanon, Ohio; one stepson, Kent Sechler, of Elwood, Indiana; eighteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Bryan (Katie) Lehmann, of Perrysburg, Ohio; one sister, Sharon Mashburn, of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and his canine companions, Ben and Sissy. He was also preceded in death by his parents and three infant sons, twins, Jerry and Larry Lehmann, and Michael Lehmann. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2011, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, followed by recitation of the rosary at 8:00 P.M. on Thursday. Services will be held on Friday, November 4, 2011, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bryan, with Father James Halleron officiating. Interment will follow in Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan. Memorials are requested to St. Patrick Catholic Church or to Hillside Aeromodelers.
