Merlin J. Slagle, 89, of rural Edon, Ohio, died late Tuesday evening, October 25, 2011, at Community Hospital and Wellness Center, Bryan, Ohio.
He was born on September 7, 1922, at Pioneer, Ohio, to Abner Emmanuel and Ada (Oswald) Slagle and was a graduate of Pioneer High School. On December 17, 1943, he was married to Patricia Waters, and she survives.
Merlin had been a Williams County resident most of his life, residing in the Edon area the past 64 years.
In his earthly life he faithfully served the Bethlehem Christian Union Church and his citizenship is in heaven and he has gone to be with his Lord.
Also surviving are one son, Pastor Michael (Betty) Slagle, Bryan; one daughter, Rebecca (Richard) Arnold, Mansfield, Ohio; four grandchildren, Daniel (Lynsey) Slagle, and David (Connie) Slagle, both of Bryan, Michelle (Troy) Hartman, Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Gwendolyn Arnold, Mansfield, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Grace, Emaline, Andrew, and Anna Mae Slagle; and one brother, Herbert Repp, Hickville, Ohio.
Preceding him in death were brothers, Harold Slagle and Richard Repp, and sisters, Lois Slagle and Elizabeth Douglass.
Visitation for Merlin will be on Friday, October 28, 2011, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. in Krill Funeral Home, Edon. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday in Bethlehem Christian Union Church with Pastor Michael Slagle officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Grove Cemetery, Pioneer, Ohio.
