Donald L. Hug, age 74, of Edgerton, Ohio, died at 10:55 A.M. on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at St. Joseph Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he was a patient, after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Edgerton and veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Hug was the former owner and operator of Hug TV & Radio. After a 30-year career, he retired from General Tire in Bryan, where he worked as a supervisor and maintenance worker. At the time of his retirement, he held the position of number one in seniority. He formerly served on the Edgerton Fire Department and was a member of its championship waterball team. An avid fisherman and avid woodworker, he also was a licensed private pilot. He was a former member of the Bryan Eagles and Bryan Moose Lodge. Donald L. Hug was born on August 8, 1937, in Edgerton, Ohio, the son of Alfred C. and Idris L. (Kissinger) Hug. He married Marilyn Burkhart on January 18, 1958, in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and she survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Van Hug and Teresa (and husband, Eugene Stafford) Hug, both of Edgerton, Tod (Laurie) Hug, of Ayersville, Ohio, and Jena (Ron) Whitman, of Hicksville, Ohio, nine grandchildren, two step-grandsons, three great-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister, Rosalie (James) Thiel, of Blakeslee, Ohio, three brothers, Arthur (Kathy) Hug and Neal (Cathy) Hug, both of Edgerton, and Richard (Carolyn) Hug, of Portland, Indiana, and one brother- and sister-in-law, Bob and Patsy Burkhart, of Traverse City, Michigan. Preceding him in death were three brothers, Clarence, Robert and Duane, a daughter-in-law, Laura Hug and one great-granddaughter, Cori Ann Taylor. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, with Pastor Byron Adams officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
