Derek J. Hughes, age 20, of Bryan, Ohio, died on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, in an auto accident, along with his dog, Diesel. Derek was a 2010 graduate of Bryan High School and was employed by Spangler Candy Company as a cane cook. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved the outdoors and playing his guitar. Derek J. Hughes was born on July 7, 1991, in Bryan, Ohio, the son of Sonya (Hancock) Hughes and Terry Hughes, and they survive in Bryan. Also surviving are one sister, Sierra Hughes, one brother, Brett Hughes, both of Bryan, his fiancee, Danielle Preisel, of Chicago, his grandparents, Bob and Barb Hancock, also of Bryan, and Dorothy Hughes, of Evansport, Ohio, one great-grandmother, Ellen Harrington, of Bryan, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceding him in death were his grandfather, Orin Hughes, and his great-grandparents, Herbert Harrington and Walter and Pearl Hancock. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 7, 2011, after 5:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 8, 2011, in the Krill Funeral Home, Bryan, with visitation two hours prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 A.M. Memorials in memory of Derek and Diesel are requested to the Williams County Humane Society.
