Bernard D. Bowers, age 67, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 9:22 A.M. on Wednesday, August 31, 2011, shortly after admittance to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Bryan. Mr. Bowers was a 1963 graduate of Stryker High School and was employed by Challenge-Cook Brothers in Bryan for seventeen years until the plant closed. He was a member of the Alliance Church in Bryan and enjoyed country and gospel music, gardening and farming and, most of all, playing with his grandkids. Bernard D. Bowers was born on January 17, 1944, near West Unity, Ohio, the son of Willard and Pearl (Patten) Bowers. He married Esther H. Hernandez on June 24, 1967, in Bryan, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on June 24, 2010. Mr. Bowers is survived by a daughter, Christine Bowers, of Bryan, a son, Dean (Denise) Bowers, of Defiance, Ohio, five grandchildren, Addilynn Bowers, James Bowers, Brock Bowers, Isaiah Bowers and Chase Bowers, one great-grandchild, Trae Bowers, and one brother, Burnell (Carolyn) Bowers, of Bryan. He was also preceded in death by his parents. Visitation for Bernard D. Bowers will be held on Sunday, September 4, 2011, from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. in the Alliance Church. Services will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at 1:00 P.M. in the church with Pastor Gary Keisling officiating. Interment will follow in Shiffler Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family.
