Harold LaMar (Dick) Miller, age 89, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 12:55 A.M. on Thursday, August 25, 2011, in his home, surrounded by family and friends, after an illness of a year and a half. Mr. Miller was a graduate of Roanoke High School in Roanoke, Indiana, and served in the United States Army during World War II in Normandy, Northern France, and in the Phillippines. Dick owned and operated the Jam Jar Restaurant in Bryan, LaMar’s in Bryan for eleven years and LaMar’s in Montpelier for five years, then worked for Lester’s Diner from 1965 until his retirement in 2010. He was a member of Bryan First Presbyterian Church, Bryan Eagles, Aerie #2233, Bryan Moose Lodge #1064, Bryan VFW Post #2489, Bryan Am-Vets Post #54 and Roanoke American Legion Post #160. Known for his green thumb, Dick grew numerous varieties of plants and flowers. He also enjoyed sending cards for special occasions to friends and relatives, including his furry grandchilden, and was also known for beating the penny and nickel slots on many occasions. Harold LaMar (Dick) Miller was born on March 6, 1922, in Roanoke, Indiana, the son of Glenn and Gladys (Haines) Miller. He married Martha O. Hoehn on August 20, 1960, in Bryan and she preceded him in death on March 26, 1975. Surviving are his children, Carol (Don) Cravens, of Bryan, Janet (James) Hunter, of Thomasville, Georgia, Denise (Steve) Minichino, of Brooksville, Florida, Ron (Barb) Miller, of Wichita, Kansas, and Dennis (Shana) Miller, of Bryan, thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and his friend of over thirty years, Chuck Flower, who was like a son to him. Preceding him in death in addition to his wife were his parents and a sister, Doris Hoover. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2011, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Services will be held on Monday, August 29, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Bryan, with Pastor Barry Sweet officiating. Interment will follow at Fountain Grove Cemetery in Bryan with grave side military rites conducted by Bryan VFW Post #2489. Memorials are requested to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers Hospital Hospice and Home Health or to Bryan First Presbyterian Church.
