Byron Lee Engler, age 73, of Edgerton, Ohio, died at 3:10 P.M. on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at Bryan Care and Rehabilitation Center in Bryan, where he was a patient. Mr. Engler was veteran of the United States Marines serving from 1954-1956. During his work career, he was a machinist, worked in maintenance and drove semi trucks. He was a member of the Edgerton Church of Christ, American Trapshooting Association, Bryan Loyal Order of the Moose and Fraternal Order of Eagles in both Bryan and Butler, Indiana. He was a avid sportsman and enjoyed golf, bowling and trapshooting. Byron was among the racing legends in the tri-state area and won track championships at both Avilla and Bryan Motor Speedways. He also had raced motorcycles. He was a well known musician in the area, playing electric bass and guitar and also entertained with his own band, the Byron Engler Country Rock Sound Band. Byron Lee Engler was born on October 17, 1937, in Edgerton, Ohio, the son of K.O. and Opal (Blosser) Engler. He married Judith A. Rutledge on November 13, 1961, in Covington, Kentucky and she survives. Also surviving are his mother, Opal Engler, of, Edgerton, three daughters, Shari (Dan) Gnagy, of Angola, Indiana, Rebecca (Dale) Mason, of Edgerton and Victoria Martin, of Bryan, three grandchildren, Joshua and Jordan Mason and Keeley Augsburger, a brother, Denny Engler, of Edgerton, three sisters, Kay Dennis and Kathy (Keith) Whitman, both of Edgerton, and Karen (Bob) Kensill, of Rincon, Georgia and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, and infant, brother, Owen Dale Engler and an infant nephew, Ricky Lee Dennis. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2011, from 1:00-4:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home in Edgerton. A time of sharing celebrating the life of Byron Lee Engler will follow in the funeral home beginning at 4:00 P.M. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton. Memorials are requested to the Edgerton Area Food Bank or to the American Cancer Society.
