Nadia Mytczynskyj

Nadia Mytczynskyj, age 84 of Bryan, died peacefully in her home early on Monday, July 4, 2011. Mrs. Mytcznyskyj was the widow of John, who preceded her in death on August 12, 2010. Nadia was born on July 10, 1926 in Rodionowci, The Ukraine, the daughter of Vasyl and Olena (Palminska) Serhava. One of six children, life was hard in the Ukraine at this time, but she was a good student and completed her education. In 1942, during World War II, Nadia was taken from her home by German soldiers and forced to work on a farm near Bremen, Germany. While working there she met John Walter Mytczynskyj who was also taken from his home in the Ukraine and forced to work on a neighboring farm. After the war, John and Nadia escaped repatriation to the Soviet Union by escaping from a repatriation camp at considerable danger to themselves. They lived in Germany until they emigrated to the United States in 1950 where they began to farm and raise turkeys. They proudly became citizens of the United States in 1956 and moved to a farm west of Bryan where they lived and worked the rest of their lives. Nadia became an expert herdswoman while working along the side of her husband on the farm and was known as an excellent cook with her baked goods being a favorite for those who knew her from her many years at the Williams County Farmers Market. In addition to being a wonderful, loving, and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was a member of the Lick Creek Church of the Brethren in Bryan. Her passing is mourned by all who loved and knew her. Her life will be celebrated and remembered. She will be dearly missed. Surviving Nadia are, three sons, Stefan (Susan) Mytczynskyj, of Frisco, Colorado, Walter (Kelly) Mytczynskyj, of Millbury, Ohio, Danny (Angela) and Andrew (Dee Anthony), Mytczynskyj, both of Bryan, one daughter Ann (Richard) Wirth, of Bryan, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Joseph and a granddaughter, Beth Jorgensen. Visitation for Nadia will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2011, from 12:00-2:00 P.M., in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio. Private grave side services will be conducted in Brown Cemetery, near Bryan for close friends and family.
